Methodology & Source Rules
We collect, we don't write. Every record on ComePass restates structured fields from official Korean government sources and links directly to the underlying public filing or registry entry.
1. What we collect
Three official Korean government sources feed a single cross-linked company and supplier index:
| Government Source | Scope & Records | Update Cadence | Official Portal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Financial Supervisory Service (FSS OpenDART) | Corporations listed on KOSPI, KOSDAQ, and KONEX (corp_cls Y, K, N): company overview, annual financial statements in integer KRW, and recent 90-day disclosure filings (Korean & official English filing titles). |
Daily filings sync (11:30 UTC) & weekly company overview batch |

| FSS OpenDART company register | Unlisted companies registered with DART: names, DART code, corporate BRN, registration number, founding date, industry, address. No financial statements for these companies. Search and MCP only, no web pages. | Profiles filled hourly (:40 UTC) |
opendart.fss.or.kr ↗ |
| Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service (COMWEL) | For-profit head offices (BRN middle digits 81, 86, 87, 88) enrolled in employment and industrial-accident insurance: workplace name, address, industry, reported regular headcount summed over insured workplaces, first enrolment date. Individual proprietors, branches, and non-profits are dropped before storage. As of 2025-12-31. | Annual file (data.go.kr 15002150) | data.go.kr ↗ |
| National Tax Service (NTS) | 10-digit Korean business registration status (active, suspended, closed, not_registered, unknown when NTS gives no explicit answer), taxation type, and closure date. |
Real-time on-demand lookup via data.go.kr (never cached or stored) | data.go.kr/15081808 ↗ |
| Public Procurement Service (PPS KONEPS) | Rolling 12-month public procurement contracts (goods, services, construction, foreign) and registered corporate suppliers (corporations only, NTS middle digits 81–88). |
Daily incremental sync (22:10 UTC) for new, amended, and deleted contracts |

2. What we don't do
- No machine translation of filings or contract titles: We publish official English company names and English DART filing titles where registered, alongside the original Korean legal text. We do not machine-translate disclosure bodies, contract titles, or agency names.
- No AI-generated summaries or editorial picks: Nothing is summarized, scored, or ranked by opinion. Every line maps deterministically to a structured government API field.
- No investment advice, ratings, or price targets: ComePass provides factual public records only and never issues buy/sell signals, valuation opinions, or multi-company comparison prose.
- No KRX stock prices or market cap: Real-time or historical Korea Exchange (KRX) market price series and market capitalization are excluded.
- No private scraping or proprietary reports: Brokerage research reports, credit rating agency reports, and non-public datasets are never collected.
3. How numbers are counted
Public procurement (12-month rolling window)
The 12-month window is by original contract signing date: it covers contracts first signed in the period, and excludes amendments registered in the period to contracts signed earlier. Amounts are in KRW from Korea's Public Procurement Service (KONEPS). The 12-month total counts sole contracts in full and joint contracts by the supplier's share; joint contracts without a published share are counted but not summed. Multi-year contracts count only the current-period amount. Unit-price (framework) contracts are reported separately because their values are ceilings, not spend. Where KONEPS reports no total contract amount, the current-period amount is used as the total.
- Window basis (
original_signed_date): The 12-month window covers contracts first signed within the period and excludes later amendments registered in the period for contracts originally signed earlier. - Deduplication by amendment order: KONEPS publishes each contract amendment as a separate sequence row (
chg_ord). ComePass keeps only the latest non-deleted sequence per contract number (ctrt_no) and removes contracts present in the KONEPS deletion history. - Joint contracts (
share_pct): When a contract is awarded to a consortium, each corporate supplier's attributed amount is multiplied by its disclosed share percentage in KONEPScorpList. Joint contracts without a disclosed share percentage are counted injoint_contracts_12mand excluded fromtotal_amount_krw. - Multi-year contracts (
multi_year): Headline 12-month totals sum the current-year contract amount (thtmCntrctAmt/amount_this_krw). Total multi-year commitment (totCntrctAmt) is reported separately underby_contract_type.multi_year. - Unit-price contracts (
unit_price): Unit-price contracts represent rate schedules or ceiling amounts rather than realized delivery spend; they are reported separately underby_contract_type.unit_priceand excluded fromtotal_amount_krw. - Missing contract total fallback: Where KONEPS reports no total contract amount, the current-period amount is used as the total.
Annual financial statements (OpenDART)
- Consolidated first (
CFS→OFS): Annual revenue, operating income, net income, total assets, total liabilities, and total equity are extracted as integers in the reported currency (usually KRW; a few companies file in USD) from consolidated financial statements (CFS), falling back to separate financial statements (OFS) only when consolidated statements are not filed.
4. Identifiers & cross-linking
corp_code(8 digits): Unique corporate identifier assigned by Korea's Financial Supervisory Service in OpenDART (e.g.00126380).stock_code(6 digits): Korea Exchange (KRX) ticker symbol for listed companies (e.g.005930).business_registration_no(10 digits): Korean tax registration number (NNN-NN-NNNNN, e.g.124-81-00998) used to link OpenDART corporate profiles with National Tax Service registration status and PPS KONEPS procurement contracts. Middle digits81–88designate legal corporations under National Tax Service rules.
English names are as registered with DART and may differ from the Korean legal name. Use corp_code, stock_code, or business registration number to identify a company.
5. Privacy by design
- Corporate entities only: Sole-proprietor business registration numbers (middle digits outside
81–88) and individual representative names in KONEPS records are filtered out and discarded before storage. - Zero storage for on-demand tax status checks: Business registration numbers submitted to
kr_business_statusor/api/v1/kr-business-statusare forwarded on demand to the National Tax Service API and are never written to D1 or request logs. - Cookieless pseudonymous telemetry: See our Privacy Notice for details on weekly rotating pseudonymous request metrics and 90-day event purging.
